Keep hearing the word dermaplaning and want to know what all the fuss is about? Or you have heard all about it, want to get it done but are low key freaking out at the thought of someone essentially shaving your face?
Never fear! We’ve put together a list of answers to the most commonly asked questions we hear at Miami Kiss to put your mind at ease.
WHAT IS DERMAPLANING?
Dermaplaning in simple terms, is the process of having a medical-grade scalpel scrape across the surface of your skin to remove the ‘peach fuzz’. It is generally used in conjunction with other facial treatments.
WHY DO IT?
The treatment, while removing the fuzz, also takes off the superficial layer of dead skin. This leaves the skin feeling soft and gives an immediate brightening effect on the skin while also improving the skin’s overall texture. The process can help skin-care products sink in better and makeup go on smoother.
SO COULD I JUST GET THE SAME RESULT BY SHAVING MY FACE WITH A STANDARD RAZOR AT HOME?
Oh hell no! Not only are we trained to do the procedure, we also use the right equipment to ensure you achieve the right result and also make sure you are safe from cuts and infections.
I HAVE ACHE OR SENSITIVE SKIN – SHOULD OR COULD I GET DERMAPLANING DONE?
This is really on a case by case basis. We would recommend coming in for a general consult to discuss options. (book your consult here).
DOES IT HURT?
Depending on your comfort level you may not completely relax throughout the process but no, the treatment should not hurt at all.
You will probably find your skin is a little red for a few hours afterwards but this will fade.
ONCE I START, DO I HAVE TO CONTINUE HAVING THE TREATMENTS?
Repeated treatments with any beauty procedure will give better and more effective results over time, however no, you do not have to continue with dermaplaning after your first treatment nor do you have to have it regularly. And no, you will not end up with a 5 o’clock shadow after having the treatment, lol.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD OR COULD I HAVE TREATMENTS?
As often as 6-8 weeks depending on skin type and how you feel your skin handles your first treatment.
CAN OR SHOULD I DO ANYTHING TO IMPROVE THE RESULTS OF DERMAPLANING?
Depending on skin type, you may wish to have a peel in conjunction with your dermaplaning treatment – we can advise on this with a general consult.
After the treatment make sure to take care of your skin – you may find you have more dryness the first few days afterwards so keep up the moisturiser and of course always be sun safe – sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen!
